« Speed Dating » and « Slow Dating »
There are an infinite number of ways to meet collaborators for performing and/or recording improvised music. We discover another artist’s music on stage, on disk or video and the idea, the desire, to make music with him/her takes form. We make contact, describe the project- it works! (speed dating!) It’s going straight to the musical event without making a detailed plan, without setting preconditions for creating together. The way I met Noël, the way this project came together, is more like "slow dating". It all started in July of 2013 when I heard his album, "Carlo Gesualdo- ’Madrigal For Five Guitars’". It’s such beautiful music, such a modern interpretation, that I felt compelled to contact him via Facebook, and we began to share our thoughts on the world of music. I proposed recording a piano and electric guitar free improvisations duet. The discussion continued, and we formed a deep connection before going into the studio. We played for a long time and had lots of fun on June 3, 2014, at the Foundry studio and decided to present our improvisations as a double album: "Siderrances".
